More about Marc:
Marc Rivet is an active collaborative pianist, arranger, director, and educator with a diverse background and skill set. Originally from Raceland, Louisiana, Rivet graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Music Education, Piano and Percussion, and Percussion Performance. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Collaborative Piano at USM under Dr. Michael Bunchman.
Rivet has performed as a soloist and collaborative pianist with instrumentalists and singers in chamber ensembles, jazz bands, and mixed ensembles of various sizes. Rivet was named a winner of the 2014 William T Gower Concerto Competition and a finalist in the 2016 Percussive Arts Society International Solo Marimba Competition. He has performed with groups such as Crossmen (2012) and the World Champion Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps (2014 - 2016) and has taught and arranged for various competitive ensembles within the marching arts.
Having extensive experience in Musical theatre, Marc was has music directed and accompanied for organizations such as the University of Southern Mississippi Theatre and Dance Department and Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera. He served as Chorus Master in HCLO’s production of "Evita" and Music Director of "Mamma Mia!" He has directed, lead, played, re-orchestrated scores, and designed his own main stage concerts for various musical theatre productions including "Cabaret," "Oliver," and "Hairspray."
Marc is an alumnus of the International Performing Arts Institute (IPAI) 2019, where he studied Collaborative Piano in Musical Theatre in Kiefersfelden, Germany. In July 2020, Marc developed and hosted a Zoom Music Technology Workshop with the 2020 IPAI Global Artist Program (GAP): a virtual music training intensive created to provide meaningful collaborative experiences, training, and artistic expression during the COVID-19 crisis. During GAP 2020, Marc taught and coached IPAI students and faculty strategies for virtual recording, teaching, and performing. He worked one-on-one with vocalists and pianists, teaching them how to create high-quality video performances using free software and basic hardware accessible or owed by almost everyone. In addition he music directed, accompanied, edited, and compiled a virtual musical theatre group performance with 12 singing artists. To conclude the 3-week intensive, Rivet compiled, edited, and streamed 3 pre-recorded concerts using the videos created by IPAI participants and simultaneously broadcast them on multiple online and social media platforms.
Throughout the COVID-19 crisis, Marc has worked with numerous musicians and organizations to create virtual collaborative projects to keep musical arts alive and thriving. He’s excited to share his experience and tips with you!
